Balasore: In a horrifying act, a man allegedly killed his wife in Chakuapal village, located within the Raibania police jurisdiction, due to suspicions of her infidelity, as reported by local authorities on Friday.
The suspect, identified as Chandramohan Patra, had been married to Jayanti, a resident of Tentula village, for nearly three decades. Jayanti had a daughter from a previous relationship, and together they had three daughters and a son.
Reports indicate that Chandramohan's growing distrust towards his wife led to frequent arguments at home. On Thursday night, while Jayanti was asleep, he used a sharp weapon to behead her. The grim discovery was made by their eldest daughter, Samita, who, unable to contact her mother, returned home to find the horrific scene.
Samita raised the alarm immediately. Chandramohan later turned himself in at the Raibania police station on Friday morning. Following the incident, Subrata Behera, the sub-divisional police officer of Jaleswar, along with police officer-in-charge Lopamudra Panda and a forensic team, arrived at the crime scene to initiate an investigation. A case (84/25) has been registered, and the body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Chandramohan is currently being interrogated regarding the murder. Villagers revealed that he had previously attempted to harm his father about a decade ago. This tragic incident underscores the pressing need to tackle issues related to domestic violence, mental health, and gender-based crimes, particularly in rural regions.
